HOUTAN NOUSHMEHR

Dr. Houtan Noushmehr is currently an assistant professor of Bioinformatics and Epigenomics of Cancer at University of Sao Paulo (USP), Ribeirao Preto Medical School (FMRP), Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo in Brazil. A native of USA, specifically, California, Dr. Noushmehr now lives and works in the state of Sao Paulo since 2012. Formally trained as a molecular biologists, Dr. Noushmehr holds a Masters degree in Biology (California State University, Los Angeles) and Bioinformatics (Johns Hopkins University) and a PhD in Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology (University of Southern California). Since 2008, Dr. Noushmehr has been an active member of the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) analysis working group focused on DNA methylation and integrative analysis. In 2010, Dr. Noushmehr discovered and described the glioma CpG Island Methylator Phenotype (G-CIMP), a distinct epigenomic profile associated with IDH1/IDH2 mutation and associated with younger individuals and longer overall survival among adult gliomas. Dr. Noushmehr‘s lab at USP is focused on understanding the progression of low and high grade gliomas by evaluating the changes in DNA methylation and histone modifications with the hope that his research will provide novel insights into both tumor biology and therapeutic targets as well as prognostic biomarkers.
